Blink of an eye

TWO years ago..

but it was just like yesterday,
New Years of 2008,
with a friend,
cold weather,
each cuddled in their warm jumper,
holding a pen and plain A4 paper,
hiding our "new years resolutions" from each other, until we've finished writing our list..

I don't remember much of my list except that it was a bit silly :P
..and 'friend' stuck it on the wall with a bright fuschia tape, which surprisingly stayed there for like 9 months, lol.

So flash forward a whole year later .. New Year 2009!

To be honest, I expected it to be a bit corny and not that good.. but its the Total opposite!!

It's very random, yet so funny, and of course love the songs and choreography!

His amazing career definitely influenced Photography, as a whole

Last night, I was watching random home made Youtube videos, as usual, and I heard something about "BlogTV"... so i asked our friend, Mr.Google, not knowing what to expect, and clicked the link that came up..

... and Voilà..!

a window into a very different worldd..

.. a world where any random person anywhere on this globe broadcasts a live video of themselves and there's a chat box on the side where people could comment, ask questions, and acutally have a proper discussion with the person in the video!!

By stumbling upon this site, lemme tell you, i could not believe the extent of what technology has brought us!
It's amazing how you type something and immediately you get a response from the person in the video stream (or whatever its supposed to be called..)
So, to cut the description short, it's like Live YouTubing, where the live video broadcaster can have conversations with the commenters.

There is definitely room for people to abuse this form of random stranger communication, especially with all those cyber weirdos out there :/

The broadcasted stuff I've seen so far included people playing guitar, singing, (some very talented, and others so so) comedy stuff, diy craft making, and even just sitting there staring at the cam doing nothing or responding to random topics with the "typers" on the chat.

One broadcaster that really caught my interest was this talented artist that was broadcasting himself as part of a project he called "My Space".

He was actually living for a whole week in a cardboard box in an art gallery in Miami, where visitors could peek through peepholes to see him. His forms of communication included internet connection and a mobile phone.

It was interesting to chat with him through his video broadcast, because he explained how his project experiments with human interaction and how much it has changed with technology.

I asked about how he gets his food, and believe it or not it's the random people visiting him that offer him food, and sometimes in exchange for some of his art work that he has displayed in his 'box'. .. aint that interesting?

yeah so i think BlogTV its an interesting place to visit once in a while, see what's out there.
I DO advise to beware of the weirdos, and i defiantly do not recommend this site for young internet surfers, due to some unnecessary hater and uncensored comments that may be found :p

I discovered something at a trip to the local zoo...

...that I am NOT alone with my way of sleeping!

Thanks to a little animal called a Meerkat.. ( a.k.a "Timone" from the Lion King)

It's just that if I am not tucked comfortably in my bed, I Do tend to sleep in peculiar ways.. (hence the "chennech rebyana" comments :p)

I'll explain 2 common scenarios.. all with photographic evidence.

1. I'm on my laptop late at night... procrastinating sleep as usual.. and for those who don't know me, I only sleep to live :p

Ya so im on my lapptop typing or browsing or whatever.. then i get this wave of sleepiness without any warning and my eyes close and my brain shuts down.. and i fall into a sleep where I would most likely be woken-up from either laptop sounds or the early morning sun.

2. I'm curled up on my couch watching TV (infomercials still count as tv ;p) trying to fight the sleepiness.

I surrender and rest my head a bit by putting it down ... and before I know, it I fall into a semi sleep kinda looking like this:

Back pain or a nagging voice from someone telling me to go to bed wakes me up..

Scrubbing-in and assisting in Theatre must have been the coolest experience ever...

yeah they were tiring long days and all, but atleast I got to know a hot McDreamy-ish surgeon!

He was so cool that while operating and drilling screws into bones, he bobs his head, singing along to "Grease Lightning.." "Arr-Ess-Pei-Eee-See-Tee... " and sometimes he adds a little booty shake too.. haha ;p

and when he gets bored during the procedures, he asks us stupid jokes like "why did the chicken cross the road.." lol!

Don't get me wrong, the dude definitely knows what he's doing, and he makes a pretty darn good job at it too..

Who ever said that males can not multi-task?
well, maybe hot surgeons are just an exception ;p

He definitely made the experience more enjoyable.. and I Thank him for bringing a sense of humor into this somewhat brutal profession of his.

Unrelated fact of the day:
Don't accidently squirt toothpaste into your eye... it hurts, trust me :/

i don't like the feeling of something biting your insides... sometimes I cannot put a finger to what exactly is causing it.. I think it's a combination of feeling vulnerable and a little stupid incident that seems to escalate by making it more important and dramatic than it really is..

okay i don't think i'm being understandable right now.. but typing this is making it better.

does anyone know of an "undo" button that exists in life?

I don't like miscommunications and altered mood confrontations! and being mean to someone for an unimportant reason.. only to realize that After the "damage is done"..

and most of all I don't like the feeling of guilt. I pretty much live on a clear conscience and to have something sitting in me like that just messes up my insides.

a person knows the real facts, and maybe things could change, i guess only time would tell?

Those 2 weeks went so fast...

okay, I shouldn't be writing this right now cuz I've got So many things to organize before I start uni again tomorow, but here goes..

I've been reflecting on the nice and relaxing times i've had back home. and No i do not feel one inch of guilt for not attempting to even look at the notes i had brought with me.

It was totally worth it!

Waking-up kinda early almost every day, having the whole morning to do whatever... from accompanying a friend for job papers to be completed, to planning early breakfasts somewhere where flamingoes can be found ;p or just having old-fashioned breakfast at home.

I didn't usually go out for 'ghada' cuz I just wanted to enjoy our home-cooked food as much as I can :) and sometimes I'd tell them to save a bit so I can have it for dinner.. 6ab3an they'd think i'm wierd.. oh well, as long as i'm enjoying my food, right? ;p

Being with my nieces/nephew was the best el9ara7a. the smallest things they say just make your day.

Also throw in 2 'esteqbals', and a kid's McDonalds Birthday party and that pretty much sums up my trip back home :)

Through My Window~

The sky is pitch dark, my spotlights are dimmed. Lounging lazily on my couch next to the windows.. Party of Five on TV, remote in my hand, laptop on the table, next to it a plate with bread crumbs and remnants of ketchup, beside it an empty mug with a wet green-tea bag.

My eyes are uncontrollably shutting as i feel sleepier and sleepier. The time? 1:34 am. Just thinking of all the things i gotta do before going to bed just made me want to stay on the couch slouching and doing nothing..

..thats when i heard a very very close noise going:

THUD, THUD, SQUEEEEEK !

My heart racing,.. scared to death, I look behind me and notice a figure of a Large man against my window!
He was attached to many ropes, with a helmet on his head and a sqweegee thing in his hand.
(bear in mind, i'm on one of the top floors of this building..)

My reflex action happened surprisingly fast.. i jumped out of my humble couch, moved the sheer white curtain accross and rushed to switch the lights off so that i wouldn't be 'exposed' with my lovely kesha bed-head and pj's on..

i ran away to hide in the room, but saw the other dude had jumped into the balcony to clean the other windows :/

man, i was seriously freaked out!

who would do this in the middle of the night? what if i needed extra privacy.. Definitely not good to have a person looking into my place like that! at least have it done during daylight, and it wouldn't hurt to send out a stupid notice either.

it better be that my windows are squeaky clean right now.

A Day in a Life...

*7:30- alarm

*8:00- wake up

*9-12:30- tutorial + practical work

(lunch break)- home, pray, eat, Scrubs on TV

*2pm- 1st lecture. (..quite interesting, he so looks like Seal)

*3pm- 2nd lec. (..new fella.. was spending ages explaining every annoying little insignificant detail!!)

*4pm- 3rd lec. (..she had the lights off every 5 mins to see the slides more clearly.. gave me a chance to doze-off a bit)

*5pm- 4th lec. (..now this dude literally looks like a boney skeleton with flesh, i'm not kidding)

*6:15- i'm hoooooome =)

For almost 4 straight hours my poor toshi was sat in the same seat.. i didn't get up, not even once!

for the 1st lec, i was listening attentively. The fact that he looked like Seal was kinda amusing, i gotta admit ;p

It went down-hill from there... so to keep myself entertained, I started doodling the Exit sign.. which then expanded to doodling my view... i felt like a grounded kid, forced to stay in one place.

Inner Argument

Walking on my way home in the windy weather with a scarf wrapped around my neck, I was having an 'inner argument' wether to go to pass by the jam3eya.. or not.

(keep in mind it's litteraly 5 minutes away from my place)

1st side of me:
gosh im too tired.. had a long day, saw too many faces.. Need to go home, clear my mind, rest and eat.. yes eat.. oh and there's Subway, get a sub.. yo3anah!

2nd side of me:
the jam3eya is almost on the way, why not pass by it.. Plus it's so much better to eat healthy stuff... shlech eb hal Subway? oo ba3dain 9arlech 2 weeks tgoleen bashtery Fresh Fruits o lail7een ma sharaitay 3ala saan3!

1st side:
Don't go! the bags will be too heavy.. plus you'll be wasting plastic bags.. shfaydat el cloth shopper bags ehta uhma mkawedeen bl bait o u dont use them?!

2nd side:
yalla 3ad, ur handbag is not heavy today, so u'll be able to carry a couple of jam3eyya bags, o b3dain u can reuse or recycle the plastic bags, fa chaab.

yours truely decides to go to the jam3eyya afterall, but not before passing by a store and trying on 2 dresses and a top..

(so much for the 'waii ana ta3baanaaa' part, :P )

strolling around the jam3eya isles, i head to the checkout and happily bag my 4 bags of healthy food.

The ONE day i forget my wallet at home turns out i need it! why WHY does that happen?!

so now i had to walk home WITHOUT my groceries :( (thats 5 minutes of walking)

pick up my wallet and head back to the jam3yaa.. (add another 5 minutes)

and carry my groceries bak home (more walking time..)

Thats Triple the time/walking effort!

I was too tired unpacking my groceries, let alone make food!

A conversation about how i would NOT be able to live without my laptop became a dare...

well, i kinda needed a push to stop the distractions and start filling my lovely brain~ with some wonderful, useful information for my luckiest ever Friday the 13th exam!

At first, I seriously had withdawal symptoms.. i mean, being away from the internet by choice is SO much harder.. but after a while, i was surprisingly feeling okay with it.. except I was really missing my bloggers, and their posts :'(

as of right now, I Officially WON the bet!! WoHoooooWW!

Here's to my technology independence!

me, Atoona, was able to live 10 days with-out the use of MY laptop, any computer, or any internet for that matter!

that's 1 whole week and three days people!

Now a really special... (and maybe a little bit MEAN ;p) person owes me a HANDWRITTEN real life letter sent all the way from across the globe! ... with a real STAMP on it =D

42 new e-mails.. and god knows how many posts to catch up on... gotta go read, and thanks for those who commented on my last post.. i'll reply after posting this ;)

i like my pizza with EXTRA pizza sauce.
I don't know why, but sometimes I make a sound/noise when i stretch or reach over to pickup something.. I can't really type it out, but it kinda sounds like "uumba" in a The Grudge sound way.
I can not stand watching someone struggling really hard to get their shoes on, it annoys me a lot, so i look away.
Whether its building a piece of furniture, dealing with electric wires, or using a screw driver, Im always up for the challenge. to me it's like giving a kid candy!
Whenever a use of a map is involved, say a theme park or a new city, I'm usually the Guide.. yeah i love maps that much :)
I hated Minnie Mouse, pink, and Barbies as a kid. I liked Mickey, red, and gadget toys instead.

I've had this life-long obsession with all sorts of gadgets, and when I discovered THIS, I Knew I HAD to own one.

Walking up to the simulated sunrise with the BBC News radio channel volume slowly increasing is just great. Its Soo satisfying to wake up in the morning, not only energized by the SUN-rise Light, but also being AWARE of what's going on in the world!

okay, I know most of the 'news' i hear is when i'm half asleep, but at least during the day when people talk about local/world events, it triggers my memory and i'm like "yeeeaahh I heard that in the news this morning"

Something else this baby is really good @ is relieving symptoms of the Winter Blues.

With the very lovely (e7em..depressing!) winter days over here, we HARDLY get any sun! There's literally only about 7 hours of daylight perday! <-- yet another reason why i can't wait to jump on the plane back home!

The timing of the sun is actually used by our Bodies to regulate different things such as our Mood, Sleep, Waking up, Digestion, Energy levels, etc.. What i'm trying to say is because the sun here is so messed-up in the winter, I get messed up too! and THAT my people is when we are labeled as having SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) <-- like we need another disorder in our life, lol!

So by using this cool gadget, our bodies get the right type of Light, producing energetic hormones and stopping the bad withdrawal ones, making us sleep better at night and feel super-dee-duper during the day ;D

I just got back from Switzerland a few days ago, had to visit a family member for the weekend.

6ab3an i'm gonna ignore the stupid ma6ar incident that made me feel like a Criminal.. its not positive, won't do me any good to remember it.

Otherwise, it was amazing. The last time i've been there was in 1994!

Its so weird to see the same exact places you remember as a child. Wallah my heart was fluttering, it was like I rode a time machine o now i'm a grown-up!

We walked by Cathedral Notre-Dame. I would've loved to go inside, but it was too late. It wow-ed me to see something that lasted more than 700 years! Makes you think of others that lived in that time and how their life was like. Sub7anallah.

What i'm confused about? the difference between what i need to bring, and what i don't want to leave behind so it wont be "borrowed" (and that means never returned :P)

my filght to heathrow is tomorow morning.. i wish i could just close my eyes and get there.. kellish im not bothered to go through 5 hr flight + 2 hr train.

I just hope this academic year goes well.. and by this i mean that i will be on top of my studies, and never let anything pile up! (a promise i make every year, and still maange to break every time! :P)

In just One Day

Funny isnt it, when in only one day, we can feel extremely UP and DOWN in reaction to different things going on @ that same day??
how exhausting..
'Sahar-ing' and not sleeping well the previous night is enough for me to feel tired and non-orientated, especially with an early mornings start..

i start my morning with a lovely person that needs dentures. How i adore him. Not only is he mashallah full of postivity towards life, but considering his age and physical limitations, he is quite active when it comes mind, spirituality, & health.
Being able to get a lot done in that session was satisfying. Not only that, but the encouragement coming from this lovely person was definitely a confidence booster. As i wrap up the session i look at the time and the 'emergency meeting' has already started!

Walking into the lecture theatre 15 minutes late, i notice people's faces literally look like they've been slapped a million times. Quietly taking my seat, I try to listen to what’s going on...
Key words i picked up: mistake, change of grades, 20 students negatively affected! Now i should see the reaction on my own face!.. What The?!? how can they do that? a University, supposedly one of the "Top" (yeah rite) can do such a thing with peoples grades? My heart beating faster as i stress over my grade.
Noticing the uncontrollable crowd around this one piece of paper, i decide to wait till its less crowded to go check my grade. I see people bursting into Tears, others Mad and Shouting, and i PaNiC even more!
Alright calm down, Bismillah.. i check my grade and...

..back to where i was..
So i was checking my grade and noticed it got one grade HigheR! alf el7emdellah! i couldn’t beleive it! yiPpeEee
As i sat down eating my lunch, I try to take my time as to avoid doing 'exam revision'. It was almost time for my afternoon session. I go early, setting up and having everything prepared for this patient.
He comes in, we start chatting about how long its been since i started treating him, that's almost 3 years and now. Simple task, just needs a filling replaced. As i carry on with the treatment, i notice bleeding coming from underneath the old filling... Nooo, Don't tell me i've hit the pulp!! my heart beating really fast, i PaNic like never before. i go up to my tutor, skipping the que, and tell him what i think happened, he comes over takes a quick look, tells me to bring instruments and prepare the patient for Root Canal Treatment! (this was Only supposed to be a simple filling!!) i start to feel reaaallly guilty. anyway.. i reassured my pt, set up everything for RCT. The tutor comes again to have another look, and then tells me, oh, by the way you didn't expose the pulp. I was like What?? Noww u tell me?? After i panicked and sweated like crazy?.. but i must admit, It was definitely A RELEIF! I continue with the filling and everything went on as normal. el7emdellah!

On my way back home, i feel my stomach growling of hunger, so i stop by a shop and get myself a Chicken Caesar Wrap (yummy). My friend calls me and tells me she's gonna do some exam revision in the library. Since i didn't do any studying that day, I decide to eat and rest for an hour, then join her (don’t know what i was thinking, i had a loong day as it is).
We sat in the library, doing some work, and taking a break any chance we get. Time flew really fast, and before we knew it, it was already 11 pm!! no wonder i was yawning a lot. By the time i reached home, i felt like a zombie, really tired, was dead asleep, and didn’t wake up till 12 pm the next day!

Seriously, its been a see-saw of emotions in just that one exhausting day! im glad it all went well!

Hearing the sound of the alarm, comfortable in the warmth of my duvet, I was hesitant to get out of Bed!..

Receiving a text from my classmate:

"Wakey, Wakey! thought i'd check ur awake 4 ur 9 am start!"

Well, I'd better start my DaY..

Thinking to myself how cloudy it is, I reach to pull up the blinds.. and There I See it.. the world covered with a Frosty white layer..

OmG.. I couldn't believe my eyes.. ITS SNOWING!!!

I was so excited... jumped to the other room, waking up the girl from her sLeep..!

As soon as she heard 'SnoW' she jumped even faster than I did Lol..

I'm beginning to think it ShouLd sNow eVeryDay!

Like our friend Thomas Edison here..

he lived in a time where the only light source they know of at night is the Moon.

His Fear of the Dark, pushed him to do something about it—inventing a LighT BuLB!

Now how fascinating is that?

Here we are almost 130 years later, and that light bulb definitely came a long way.

Wait a minute… does that mean that life not being perfect can actually be a good thing?
According to this example, yes!

As part of our human nature, we only strive to achieve things if we are in Need of them…

Mr. Edison here didn’t let being kicked out of school cuz he was ‘too stupid’ or being deaf in 1 ear get in his way..He believed in himself no matter what.

My point is, if we try real hard.. we can achieve much more than we think we can!

( this gives hope for the rest of us ;Pp )

Things I would LiKe to achieve:

invent a Microwave Fax (no more desperate food days.. MaChBo0S and BiRYaNi are just a fax call away!)

invent a device used to gain Total Physical Perfection just by standing on it for a few minutes.
(after a few days, I’d be more flexible than
Mrs. Incredible)--->

Find a cure for all diseases.

The ability to speed read a whole book and have it memorized within minutes (totally handy 4 exam derasa!)

learn more languages, including Hindi, French, and Spanish.

I’m sure there is many many more, basss mukhee wagaf.. I want to post this now… ely 3enda n e suggestions, 7ayakum bl comments section…

Oh, and one more thing...

Okay.. its been a Year (heck more than a year) since I opened this blog and I only managed to get 3 posts written lol.. talk about time management!

You had your mobile with you just a second ago and now you can’t find it! (reaching for the house phone to call it)

Walking across the living room and accidentally banging your “maskeena” pinky toe against the coffee table’s leg. Ouch! :(

Unplugged power outlets switched “ON”.

Walking outdoors in the nice fresh air and suddenly, a person walking in front of u whips-out a cigarette and the smoke gets 2 your throat & sucks-out the fresh air out of you! Grrr~

Your lappy begins to “yeTaNe7” when you need it most!

The brain shuts down, u want 2 sleep… but can’t cuz there’s this one last thing 2 do before bed time.. Daylight wakes u up as u stretch out the aching muscles u got from sleeping awkwardly on the couch. Laa o0 Fo0g HaTha, u didn’t finish that thing u were supposed to do!

Feeling hungry, but being too LaZy to eat.

Snuggling comfortably on the couch, but the TV remote seems a million miles away!

Spending time on the perfect hairdo, only to realize that your growing ‘KisHa’ becomes the official outdoors weather report!

Presentaions- reports- exam!
what a routine! seriously makoo i7sas that my exam is tomorrow!
i try 2 wake up early and i kinda do...
but by the time comes for me to actually study half the day is gone..
What?!
how in the world did that happen.. ? TiMe can Seriously FLy by so fastt!
i think i can use some time manegment lessons!
hav no idea wat 2 expect.. Inshallah it goes well..
Can't wait 4 x-mas break! (bak 2 paradise)
seriously need to get sum sleep now..

My Favorite is 'Winter Wonderland' by Johnny Mathis...
He also sings 'Sleigh Ride' which is kewL too.
